BarCamp Penang 2017 - The 7th BarCamp in Penang

It has been years since we last update this blog. We have been using official website (barcamppenang.com) for event update since 2013. If you happen to visit this blog again, we would like to tell you that BarCamp Penang is back.

 What Happens In BarCamp Penang?

BarCamp is an adhoc “unconference”, and BarCampers love the unconference culture, just casual. BarCamp Penang has 4 tracks of sharing sessions. The topics & speakers will be pasted on the timetable during the event. If there are two topics competing for the same slot, we will run a casual voting session with BarCampers.

Some of the popular topics covered in the pass BarCamp Penang are Startup, Programming, iOS and Android, UIUX, WordPress, Ecommerce, Google technology, Online & Content Marketing, 3D printing, Entrepreneurship, Selling Skills, IoT, Fintech, and sometimes Forum Discussion, etc.

If you are interested to speak, please submit your topic to hello@barcamppenang.com or come early on 8th July to book your slot. Your talk should be educational, and remember, no sale pitch, political or religious issue or any sensitive topic in BarCamp.

Where To Stay?

Some friends are asking, if I'm not from Penang,
Where do I stay? Which is cheap and big?

Penang Tune Hotel
We suggest Tune Hotel, a budget hotel service! It is located in Burma Road, around 500m from Penang KDU College. You only need to walk for around 5 minutes from Tune Hotel to KDU College. Tune Hotel's limited service concept omits many traditional hospitality services to keep costs and rates as low as possible. Instead, services and extras are offered on a pay-as-you-go basis, including toiletries, 12 or 24 hours air-conditioning, tv and internet access and also single or double occupancy.

New World Park (Next To Tune Hotel)
New World Park, this unique landmark is located in the heart of Georgetown, affectionately known to locals as Sin Sei Kai, was the entertainment spot from the late 1930s to the mid 1940s. New World Park now offers Penangites a new exciting dining, shopping and lifestyle experience.
Here, you can dine semi alfresco as the stars twinkle above as a gentle breeze blows. Choose among some of the best-known food and beverage outlets in Malaysia all under one roof in the Magnificent Fine Dining Section. Adjacent is the ever-popular Food Court, with over 28 stalls presenting a wealth of Penang’s famous street food in a clean and cosy environment. The massive overhead canopies and roof top terraces enhance the ambiance, and in the background, live music and songs fill the air. There is even a Centre Performance Stage which stages music from live bands, aerobics session and other exciting activities.
It’s also the shopper’s delight with several pockets of retail outlets offerings the latest fashion accessories and gifts. New World Park Fabulous Street Market, offers an array of unique products and services.

BarCamp Penang Is Back!

BarCamp Penang was kicked start at INTI college in 2009, participated by more than 150 participants (BarCampers) around Malaysia. This year, 2011, BarCamp Penang is back. It is happening on 14th of May 2011, at Penang KDU College!

So, what is BarCamp? BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event.

BarCamp is not a traditional conference, but it is an "un-conference" that helps change makers to network with one another and build connections to promote social innovation. There is no audience. Only participants! This is unlike any conference you have been to before. It's new, it's different and it's going to happen in our city. Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

BarCamp Penang is open to everyone and it is Free!
When you come, be prepared to share with BarCampers.
When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.
